Lamas from the Drepung Loseling Monastery are creating a sand mandala over the next couple of days at the Memphis College of Art. I went by there at lunch time today and watched as one of the monks was painstakingly laying colored sands on the manadala they had sketched out. This Sunday they will have a closing ceremony at 1 pm and will also give a performance called "Sacred Dance, Sacred Music" at the Levitt Shell at 7 pm. All events are free. Read all the details and more about mandalas at: http://www.mca.edu/e_news/sandmandala.html
The Dalai Lama, who will be in Memphis to accept the International Freedom Award from the National Civil Rights Museum, will speak at the Cannon Center September 23rd, 1:30 pm. See the CA article: http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/sep/02/harmonious/

K & M
Welshcakes,
It was so interesting to see this and hear the scraping sound as the sand was being applied. I am going to their performance Sunday night as well so I may post about it on Monday.
K&M,
Both of us have also developed this virtue.
