Washburn Apartments

The new Washburn Apartments at 60 S. Main Street between Union and Monroe now have a website where you can see leasing information and floorplans. The building was formerly known as the Lawrence Building because it's last tenant was a store called Lawrence that one of my C(ertified) M(emphistanista) S(ources) ( aka: Dad) says was a furniture store. The old postcard above shows that Walgreens had once been on the corner of Union and Main. If you click on the postcard to enlarge it you can see Lawrence just beyond the Walgreens. Originally, the Romanesque building was built in 1898 in two parts known as the Lemmon and Gale buildings. In fact, the name Lemmon still appears at the top of one side of the building.

I love this blog, but I'm already regretting renting a unit here. So far, they seem kind of "take your money and run" -- I signed a lease to move in in September and still haven't heard from them - not even a "welcome - we're happy to have you as a resident," let alone move-in details or a response to my request for a repair of floor tiles that are coming up in the kitchen. It seems poorly managed, tiniest bathrooms ever. I made a mistake. :(

They don't seem to be on any apartment review sites yet, but your blog post comes up prominently in a Google search for them, so I just thought I'd share my two cents. This is just one person's opinion, but I recommend careful consideration before renting. I don't want to live there now. And apparently it costs $17,400 (year's rent) for me to break my lease.

On a more positive note, you're fabulous Michelle! Thanks for writing this blog - I read it religiously. ♥

Erinn,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having a bad experience there and I hope maybe it can be rectified some way. I'm glad you commented and thank you for reading the blog.

Erin,
You can pay me $10,000 and I'll take over rent for the remainder of your lease? =)
