A Walk in Lyon: Trying to Figure Out Distances and an Aside About the Thursday Night Ritual

I will begin taking French courses in a few days so out of curiosity and also to get my bearings a bit more, I decided to walk from Shake & Bake* to the school. (*my neighborhood is officially known as Caluire et Cuire, but readers of my blog know it as Shake & Bake)  Walking across town was one of those "Hey ya'll, watch this!" ideas.  I already know where the school is but I apparently have no ability to calculate distances here at this point in my general education. I had assumed it would take about 30 minutes to walk to the school.  It actually takes 1 hour and 10 minutes. Luckily, I had a bus ticket and had learned when I visited several months ago where the Shake & Bake bus stops are downtown. So to get back, I hopped upon the S&B bus and arrived a la maison in 10 minutes. I needed to get back also because it is Beauty Night (Thursday) and I require many weekly processes and procedures to stave off the ravages of time, however futile that may be, still I endeavour. I have brought along with me most of my Beauty Night products but was out of exfoliator. Oh la la, what to do? Well, I have found Yves Rocher and purchased this :
I'm fairly certain the French know a thing or two about beauty products and cosmetics so I have no anxiety about finding any number of very nice French products to incorporate into my regime.
But enough of this silliness! Would you like to see some of the things I saw on my 4.5 mile hike to school? Here you are:

Construction of the Shake & Bake pedestrian bridge aka passarelle, is underway. This passarelle will link S&B to the Cite International, which you can see across the river in this photo, and behind that the beautiful Parc de la Tête  d'Or. See the exciting video HERE.
One of Shake & Bake's great restaurants, the La Terrasse de Saint Clair

A pretty park

A view of the Rhône river and the Lafayette Bridge

A farmer's market

Eating, walking and relaxing along the riverside

My school!

And quelle surprise, mes amis!: Chuck Norris spray-painted on a table in the little square outside my school? Walker, Texas Ranger.

By the way, it is the season of the Sale and I believe the sales started yesterday. Everything is on sale (soldes) right now and it's BIG NEWS here. Downtown shopping area:

That's a long walk! So does that mean you're going to be taking the bus to and from school instead of walking?
I love Chuck Norris in the concrete! ;)

A might long walk with PF. I hope you are fine now. The Rhone seems wide from the photos. The farmers market looks fresh.

I like your school and it looks like a great place to be. You are gonna love it.
