Photos from the Fête des Lumières

The te des Lumières kicked off tonight and runs through the 9th.
Dripping lights in front of St. Nizier Church
This light cube covered the base of the statue in Place Bellecour. Thirty stationary bikes surrounded the cube and people peddling them generated the power to light the cube as abstract images and bright colors moved across it. The picture below shows some the bikes...

A parade of wild animals snaked through the streets....

It turns out that the thing I saw being installed this week is a dragon - it's floating in water.

The patterns projected onto the buildings in the foreground were simultaneously projected onto the Fouviere Basilica way up on the hill.

The Théâtre des Célestins was being "painted" and was continuously changing colors and patterns...

People put candles in their windows on the 8th of December only. That will be the most beautiful sight.
