Timely finding this tiny Time magazine just in time for Memorial Day weekend. I am moving. There, I said it finally. I am not ready yet to give all the details so that will do for now. So, getting back to how it is that I have this tiny Time; I'm in the process of packing and going through all of my things and I found this "pony edition" in a drawer of my grandmother's antique dresser. See the date? Yep, that's 1945 friends, a very big year indeed as we remember our soldiers who have died serving our nation. Developed during WWII, the pony edition was a special smaller, lightweight version of Time that was produced for U.S. troops serving overseas. A lot of news was packed into this little 34 page gem that covered the war, international news, medicine, business, art, film and books. I naturally skimmed through all the really important news and came across my personal favorite item. It was a Letter to the Editor; get a load of this:
"Sirs,
We here in the CBI theater have heard so much about the man shortage back in the States that when we opened your April 30th issue and read where Gloria Vanderbilt di Cicco (21) married Leopold Stokowski (sixty-ish) we realized that the height of the crisis had been reached. What's the matter, can't she wait for some of the young fellows to come home?"
Broaddus Johnson, Jr. Lieutenant, USAAF
Warner Peterson, Lieutenant, USAAF
Osborn B. Heyward, Captain USAAF
Yes, that's THE Gloria Vanderbilt they speak of here. CBI meant the China-Burma-India theater.
Happy Memorial Day!

Little Downtown Details I Noticed on My Run
Hard to keep running after the thought of greens, cornbread and cobbler has been inserted in your thoughts. And speaking of thoughts... I couldn't help but chuckle at this Hangover reference..
For that matter I couldn't help but smile in general at this weird little missive someone dreamed up and stapled to a wall. Hmm
And I just liked this...

Edge Edginess: Cupcakes, Art, The King and T-Shirts
I haven't posted about the Edge neighborhood in quite a while and thought I'd check in to see just what's been happening there:
To my surprise I see there are Cupcakes in the Edge: http://thecupcakecafe.info
Not really a hotel, fyi, but a King Sign from the Edge
T-Shirts for sale in the Edge at the St. Blues gift shop : www.saintblues.com
Aside: And speaking of T-shirts, I finally went to Sache on South Main this weekend. The people working there are so nice and helpful. They even let the Popster saunter in and poke around whilst I tried on and purchased a most perfect summer dress that I will wear the heck out of in the coming months. Friday's upcoming Trolley Tour would be a good time to check them out: www.sachedesign.com (not to mention the many other great shops and restaurants down there!)

Food Trucks
Several food trucks turned out for the Food Truck Rodeo today in Court Square. Lines were long as lots of people turned out on this perfectly warm and sunny day:
I ate the Shrimp BLT from Scratch - they've only been operating for a week or so.

Watching & Waiting
As I recover from the Grizzlies loss in overtime to the Clippers last night, I am pondering how they can grind their way back. I still believe, mind you, and I'm looking forward to watching Game 5 tomorrow.
I am also mulling over some major changes that are in the works in my life. Until I'm ready to reveal, here are some thoughts to meditate on:
“We don't understand life any better at forty than at twenty, but we know it and admit it”. Jules Renard
“We shrink from change; yet is there anything that can come into being without it? Marcus Aurelius
“Oh, my ways are strange ways and new ways and old ways
And deep ways and steep ways and high ways and low
I'm at home and at ease on a track that I know not
And restless and lost on a road that I know. " Henry Lawson

Ghosts Pop Up
Pop-Up shop beeTemps is currently taking up space in the Power House at 45 G.E. Patterson. You can pop in (ha) for the next few weeks only to browse their collection of home furnishings and accessories. Here's the whole story. I see the word "ghosts" around and seem to post about it, like here and here. It's on the Power House window pictured below as it's a remnant from the Delta Axis days.
