The Tour de France kicked off today in beautiful Corsica. As you can see from the Tour de France Map, the riders will come through Lyon this year as Stage 14 finishes here on Saturday, July 13th. Unfortunately, I won't be here to see them and it would have been so exciting. They will ride down from Croix Rousse, through Shake & Bake (!!! aka Caluire & Cuire) and across the Winston Churchill bridge which, when I go running, is the bridge I run across to get to the Rhône promenade. So I could have walked 10 minutes to the bridge from our place to see them blow by. And at that point they will be coming down the hill, so they should really be flying. From there they ride straight through Lyon and finish at the Stade de Gerland (the soccer stadium). If you happen to watch it on TV that Saturday, you should get to see a lot of the city. The Tour has come through Lyon 15 times: 1903, 1904, 1907, 1908, 1909, 1910, 1947, 1950, 1953, 1954, 1956, 1962, 1965, 1991, 2003.
