Aix-en-Provence and Avignon

At last! I finally got around to visiting Provence, if only for a couple of days. We stayed in Aix-en-Provence, home of Cézanne and took a day trip to Avignon, the City of Popes. Both cities are amazingly beautiful and I only scratched the surface. A few photos of Aix...
The Pavillon Vendôme, built in 1667, sits on beautifully landscaped grounds. It's so quiet walking around the garden that it's hard to believe it's in the heart of the city.

You see two signs on each street in Old Aix; one is in Provençal (an Occitan dialect) and the other is in French

Avignon
The famous Pont d'Avignon over the Rhône, damaged in the 17th century by flooding, what you see today is what remains.

Another view of the bridge from high up on the Rocher des Doms...

 The massive, impressive Pope's Palace

So long Provence!
